Special deal! Manchester City's goalkeeper Ortega joins Nottingham Forest for £500,000, previously a four-time Premier League champion

Stefan Ortega, the 33-year-old German goalkeeper from Manchester City, is departing the club. Known for blocking Son Heung-min’s one-on-one chance and contributing to City’s four straight Premier League victories, he is moving on to another Premier League team, with Manchester City providing a highly favorable transfer fee.

According to reporter Ben Jacobs, Ortega’s transfer fee to Nottingham Forest was just £500,000, slightly below Haaland’s weekly salary. Ortega’s current market value on Transfermarkt is €5 million, meaning he was sold for roughly one-tenth of that — truly a generous deal. This might be Manchester City’s way of sending their best wishes to Ortega.

Ortega began his youth career at Bielefeld, later played for Munich 1860 before returning to Bielefeld. He joined Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer of 2022. During his time at the club, he has made 56 appearances across all competitions, kept 25 clean sheets, conceded 51 goals, with an average of 0.91 goals conceded per game. He has won 1 Champions League title, 2 Premier League titles, 1 Club World Cup, and 1 FA Cup with the team.

Now 33 years old and standing 1.85 meters tall, Ortega is a right-footed goalkeeper. He had 5 months remaining on his contract with Manchester City but did not make any appearances this season, except for one clean sheet performance in this summer’s Club World Cup.
