FAM officially informed FIFA and AFC about the collective resignation of the entire Exco for the 2025–2029 term, amid a sensitive transition period in Malaysian football.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed it has sent an official notification to FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) regarding the simultaneous resignation of all Executive Committee (Exco) members of the organization.
The information was announced by FAM through their official Facebook page on January 29. Accordingly, FAM Secretary General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman sent a letter to FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and AFC Secretary General Datuk Seri Windsor Paul John to fully report the senior personnel changes in Malaysian football.
Previously, all Exco members of FAM for the 2025–2029 term decided to resign collectively, effective immediately. This move shocked the regional football community, as it is rare for an entire national federation leadership to step down simultaneously shortly after being elected.
Commenting on the decision, Acting FAM President Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi stated that the resignation was voluntary and unanimously agreed upon, motivated by responsibility to the organization and a desire to prioritize the long-term interests of Malaysian football. He emphasized that the decision was not influenced by personal gain or maintaining power.
According to FAM, proactively reporting to FIFA and AFC is a necessary step to ensure transparency, compliance with governance procedures, and to maintain oversight by international football bodies. This is also crucial to avoid legal consequences or sanctions related to administrative interference.
In the upcoming period, FAM will enter a transitional phase with Secretary General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman temporarily overseeing operations.Meanwhile, AFC plans to send a task force to Malaysia to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the management system and provide reform recommendations before organizing elections for new leadership.
The collective resignation of the entire FAM Exco is viewed as an effort to restore fans' trust, amid ongoing challenges related to management, performance, and controversies over naturalized players in Malaysian football.
