The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has just announced that all members of the FAM Executive Committee for the 2025-2029 term have collectively resigned. This decision takes effect immediately.
"This decision was made with proper consideration of the organization's responsibilities, without regard to personal interests or positions. It is a cautious and principled step taken in response to recent developments that have attracted significant public attention and external scrutiny," The Football Association of Malaysia issued a press release on the morning of January 28.
According to FAM, the Executive Committee recognizes the importance of collective responsibility and the need to act in a way that safeguards the integrity and reputation of the Federation. The resignations aim to:
Protect the reputation and interests of FAM and minimize the risk of further adverse consequences that could affect Malaysian football as a whole.
Maintain good governance principles and accountability, especially in situations where public trust must be upheld.
Provide an appropriate environment for FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to independently assess, review, and if necessary, address governance, administrative, and procedural matters within FAM.
Ensure that any necessary reforms can be carried out without distractions or conflicts of interest, based on reinforced trust.
Demonstrate that serving Malaysian football is prioritized over the term duration, despite the four-year term granted for 2025-2029, which has been voluntarily relinquished after 11 months.
Restore confidence among fans, stakeholders, partners, and the broader football community. Maintaining the Federation’s credibility is essential for the stability, sustainability, and future development of Malaysian football.
Most recently, FIFA has approved the suspension of the ban on seven naturalized Malaysian players after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) accepted FAM’s appeal.
