Vietnam U16 futsal achieved their inaugural win at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 futsal Championship by overcoming Myanmar 5-2, thus continuing to pursue a place in the final match.
On the evening of December 25 (Vietnam time), Vietnam U16 futsal entered their second group stage match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 futsal Championship,facing Myanmar U16 at the Nonthaburi Provincial Gymnasium in Thailand. After a determined debut against Indonesia, the coaching staff and players showed a strong comeback with a more proactive and effective gameplay.
Right in the first half, Vietnam U16 futsal quickly pushed forward, consistently applying pressure on the opponent’s half. Their fast-paced play and effective chance conversion allowed the red-shirted team to lead Myanmar 4-2 after the first 20 minutes, gaining a significant advantage before the break.
In the second half, Myanmar U16 tried to press forward to reduce the gap, but Vietnam U16 futsal’s defense stayed focused and minimized dangerous situations. Not only maintaining control, Vietnam’s team added another goal, concluding the match with a convincing 5-2 victory.
This is Vietnam U16 futsal’s first win in this year’s tournament, earning them a crucial 3 points. The day before, in their opening match, Vietnam U16 futsal showed commendable resilience by twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Indonesia U16.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship features 5 teams: host Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Brunei. The teams compete in a single round-robin format to determine the top two who will advance to the final, while the third and fourth place teams will contest the third-place match. With 4 points from two matches, Vietnam U16 futsal remains in contention for a final berth.
