The contract signed between the Vietnam Football Federation and Coach Mai Đức Chung is set to expire on December 31, 2025. Coach Mai Đức Chung also expressed his intention to retire from coaching immediately after the conclusion of the 33rd SEA Games held recently in Thailand.

After completing their mission at SEA Games 33, the Vietnam women's team needs to maintain professional stability, playing style, and team management to ensure optimal preparation for the continental competition. The plan includes regrouping and training in China in January 2026, with two friendly matches expected. Afterwards, the team will travel to Australia, the host country of the 2026 Asian Women's Cup finals, for a second training camp and an additional friendly match before officially entering the tournament.

Given the limited preparation time, the Vietnam Football Federation considers Coach Mai Đức Chung, an experienced figure with deep knowledge of Vietnamese women's football and significant contributions over time, as the most suitable candidate to continue leading the team during this crucial period.

Nguyễn Sỹ Hiển, Chairman of the National Coaches Council, assessed that having Coach Mai Đức Chung serve as head coach of the national women's team at this time is the best choice. It ensures continuity in player development, tactics, and strategic direction, helping the team maximize past achievements and aiming for strong performance at the 2026 Asian Women's Cup finals.

For his part, Head Coach Mai Đức Chung expressed his honor in continuing to receive the trust of the Vietnam Football Federation; he also affirmed that he, along with the coaching staff and players, will focus fully on preparations, determined to compete at their highest level in the 2026 Asian Women's Cup finals (the results of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup will be used to determine the Asian slots for the 2027 Women's World Cup).

The Vietnam Football Federation is confident that with coaching stability and thorough, well-organized preparation, the Vietnam women's team will continue to demonstrate unity, resilience, and ambition; thereby affirming the position of Vietnamese women's football on the continental stage.
