Foreign affairs and international relations: A lever to elevate the status of Vietnamese football

In 2025, Vietnam's football diplomatic efforts remain proactive and flexible, significantly contributing to the implementation of strategic directions and enhancing Vietnam's football standing on the international stage.

The most notable highlight is that Vietnamese football simultaneously has three official representatives participating in important FIFA technical committees for the 2025-2027 term.

Accordingly, Mr. Trần Quốc Tuấn – President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Executive Member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and Head of the AFC Competitions Committee, serves on the FIFA National Teams Competitions Committee; Mr. Nguyễn Văn Phú – General Secretary of VFF and member of the AFC Medical Committee, is a member of the FIFA Medical Committee; Ms. Nguyễn Thanh Hà, Deputy General Secretary of VFF and member of the AFC Women's Football Committee, participates in the FIFA Women's Club Football Committee.

This demonstrates the prestige of Vietnamese football in general and of these individuals in particular within the global football community. This event helps affirm the increasingly prominent position of Vietnamese football in the international football system.

Simultaneously, the VFF continues to expand cooperation with football federations and organizations regionally and globally. Through meetings and work at major football events, VFF leadership has signed numerous memorandums of understanding with reputable partners such as LaLiga (Spain), Bundesliga (Germany), the Football Federations of Japan, China, Norway, Qatar, UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Through cooperation agreements, the VFF and its partners strengthen collaboration in various areas such as exchanging coaches, referees, and experts; organizing training sessions and friendly matches for men's, women's, youth, and futsal teams; and sharing experience in professional football management and operations.

Effectively utilizing self-generated funding as well as support programs from FIFA, AFC, and international partners, the VFF organizes about 10 international training and match trips annually for its teams. In 2025, several national teams had successful training and competition stints abroad in Japan, Germany, China, and the Middle East, contributing to improved professional quality and international competitive resilience.
