Enzo Maresca points out the reason why Chelsea cannot win the Premier League

Coach Enzo Maresca acknowledges that Chelsea lacks the consistency needed to challenge for the Premier League crown and explains his recent remark about the "worst 48 hours" that sparked debate.

After the 2-0 victory over Everton in early December, Coach Enzo Maresca caused a stir when he described that period as the "worst 48 hours since I joined Chelsea." This comment came after the team endured a three-match winless streak across all competitions, including defeats to Leeds United and Atalanta, which put significant pressure on the Italian manager.

Nearly two weeks later, Maresca spoke out to clarify his intentions. In an interview with Sky Sports, he said: “We spend a lot of time together, so it’s normal to have moments of tension and moments of harmony, just like in a family. I don’t mind the media discussing the match, but being asked repeatedly over several weeks is frustrating. I have made it clear that there are no issues between me and the club’s leadership.”

The Italian coach also explained that the phrase “worst 48 hours” was not meant to criticize anyone personally but was an emotional reaction after a period of doubt and heavy external pressure.

Regarding the title challenge, Maresca frankly admitted that Chelsea still have a considerable gap compared to the top teams. Although they have beaten strong opponents like Liverpool in the Premier League and won 3-0 against Barcelona in the Champions League, he believes “The Blues” have yet to maintain consistent performance.

“It’s true we play very well against strong teams, but we lack consistency against other opponents. That’s why Chelsea cannot yet be among the title contenders. To win the championship, you must maintain consistency every week,” Maresca stated.

He also emphasized that the period from December to February will be crucial for Chelsea to strengthen their positionbefore setting concrete goals for the rest of the season.

“To be in the top positions by March, we must be very persistent and focused. Hopefully by then, Chelsea will be strong enough to fight for bigger objectives,” Maresca concluded.
