A year of transformation! Newcastle's new signing's value surged from €7.5 million to €70 million, ranking second globally in growth.

Newcastle supporters have moved on from Isak, as the Magpies boast a new prolific striker, the German golden bomber – Wirtz.

Transfermarkt published the 2025 global player value growth rankings, highlighting the 23-year-old German forward Wirtz’s dramatic transformation, with a €62.5 million increase ranking second, only behind French forward Olise (who rose €65 million, from €65 million to €130 million).

Wirtz came through Bremen’s youth academy and transferred freely to Stuttgart in the summer 2024 window. After a season of development (33 games, 17 goals, 3 assists), he was sold to Newcastle in the summer 2025 window for a transfer fee of €75 million. Stuttgart made a huge profit of €75 million in just one year, truly a big win for them.

At the end of 2024, Wirtz’s value on Transfermarkt was only €7.5 million, but by the end of 2025, it skyrocketed to €70 million, adding a zero at the end. Wirtz adapted seamlessly from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, scoring 7 goals and providing 1 assist in 14 Premier League matches, plus 1 goal and 1 assist in 6 Champions League games. He has become Newcastle’s golden bomber up front. From being mocked as an overpriced Bundesliga signing after one season, he is now a highly praised acquisition. Newcastle used the money from selling Isak to buy Wirtz and also got Visser in return, a 1-for-2 deal that Newcastle definitely benefited from.
