Thai media reacts strongly as Vietnam wins 18-0 at the Southeast Asian Championship

Vietnam’s U19 futsal team’s crushing 18-0 win against Brunei shocked the AFF U19 2025 and sparked widespread reactions in the Thai media, particularly before the forthcoming “big match”.

Vietnam’s U19 futsal squad created a “shockwave” at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship when they demolished Brunei with an unbelievable 18-0 scoreline in their opening match on the evening of December 24. This victory immediately drew strong attention from Thai media, especially since Brunei had previously only lost 0-9 to the host Thailand.

Right after the match, numerous Thai futsal fanpages and news outlets spoke out. The fanpage ฟุตซ่อน ปู้นปู้น-Futsal poonpoon commented: “Tomorrow (December 25) will definitely be intense as Thailand and Vietnam compete for the top spot. Vietnam showed an extremely frightening form, crushing Brunei 18-0 in the opener to lead Group A at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship.”

According to the draw results, in this year’s tournament, Vietnam’s U19 futsal team is in Group A alongside Thailand and Brunei, while Group B consists of Indonesia, Myanmar, and Malaysia. The tournament runs from December 23 to 29, 2025, at Nonthaburi Provincial Gymnasium, played in a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.

With the emphatic win over Brunei, Vietnam’s U19 futsal team has secured an early spot in the semifinals. The upcoming match against host Thailand is considered by regional media as the “Group A final,” carrying decisive significance for the top position and pride between the two leading futsal nations in Southeast Asia.

The AFF’s inaugural organization of futsal competitions at the U19 level is regarded as a crucial milestone for the development of youth futsal in Southeast Asia, providing young players opportunities to gain experience and international match exposure.
