VFF President 'fuels the spirit' for the Vietnam U23 national team

Yesterday afternoon (24/12), VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn visited and encouraged the Vietnam U23 team before their departure to Qatar for training, in preparation for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup final tournament.

At the meeting, VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn once again praised the players’ fighting spirit, efforts, and excellent results at the 33rd SEA Games, while stressing that the whole team must quickly move past the emotions from the recent Games to fully concentrate on the new mission.

President Trần Quốc Tuấn reminded the team that the upcoming AFC U23 Asian Cup will be much tougher as it gathers the continent’s top U23 teams, demanding serious preparation, strong determination, and strict discipline.

President Trần Quốc Tuấn affirmed that this is a challenge but also an important opportunity for young Vietnamese players to gain experience and engage with top-level continental football. He emphasized that to go far, the team must first perform well in each short phase. From the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, AFC U23 qualifiers, 33rd SEA Games to the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup final, these are progressive steps in development, and the team has done very well in previous stages, laying a foundation for the upcoming journey.

President Trần Quốc Tuấn also stressed that the current Vietnam U23 squad is the core aiming to compete in the 2030 World Cup qualifiers, so players need to be fully aware of their responsibilities, continuously work hard, and focus on the goals set from this moment.

Regarding preparations, President Trần Quốc Tuấn confirmed that VFF will keep paying attention, investing, and providing the best conditions for the team’s comprehensive preparation. First is the training trip to Qatar, where the Vietnam U23 team will play a friendly match against U23 Syria to enhance adaptability and improve skills before moving to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup final tournament.

At the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup, Vietnam U23 is in Group A with hosts Saudi Arabia, the 2022 champions, U23 Jordan, and U23 Kyrgyzstan, who are debuting at this final tournament. This group is considered highly competitive, featuring a title contender, an unpredictable opponent, and an ambitious newcomer eager to prove themselves.

According to the schedule, Vietnam U23 will open against U23 Jordan on January 6, then face U23 Kyrgyzstan on January 9, before finishing the group stage by playing host U23 Saudi Arabia on January 12.

According to the plan, on December 26, the Vietnam U23 team will depart for Qatar for training to boost fitness, refine tactics, and finalize the roster.

After the training period, the Vietnam U23 team will travel to Saudi Arabia on January 1, 2026, to participate in the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup final tournament.
