Vietnam’s U19 futsal squad kicked off the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 futsal tournament with a dominant win against Brunei.
Vietnam’s U19 futsal team started the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 futsal championship facing the weaker opponent Brunei. Brunei is considered the bottom team in Group A, having previously lost 0-9 to the host, Thailand U19 futsal team. However, Vietnam’s U19 futsal team achieved even more by scoring twice as many goals.
Specifically, Vietnam’s U19 futsal team impressively defeated Brunei 18-0 in the match held on the evening of December 24. The goals were scored by Nguyễn Thạc Hiếu, Nguyễn Thọ Minh Huy (hat-trick), Nguyễn Huỳnh Tuấn Việt, Đỗ Tuấn Vũ, Hoàng Minh Thức (double), Trần Lê Bộ, Vũ Đại Học, Phạm Quang Huy, Nguyễn Minh Lương, along with 2 own goals.
With this result, Vietnam’s U19 futsal team has officially secured a spot in the semifinals of the Southeast Asian U19 futsal championship. Tomorrow’s match against the host Thailand will only decide the group winner. A draw will guarantee Vietnam the top spot due to superior goal difference.
According to the draw results, at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 futsal championship, the Vietnam U19 futsal team is placed in Group A along with Thailand and Brunei. Group B consists of Indonesia, Myanmar, and Malaysia.
The tournament runs from December 23 to 29, 2025 at the Nonthaburi Provincial Sports Hall, using a single round-robin format within each group. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals to compete for a place in the final.
The AFF’s first organization of U19 futsal championships marks a significant milestone for the development of youth futsal in Southeast Asia, providing young players with opportunities to gain international experience. The Vietnam U19 futsal team aims to demonstrate strong skills and accumulate vital international match experience to become the future backbone of the national team.
