Africa Cup of Nations: Cameroon vs Gabon! Cameroon is deteriorating, and the main culprit turns out to be the football association chief?

Today, our first topic isthe Africa Cup of Nations: Cameroon vs Gabon!

There is a team that:has two head coaches who do not acknowledge each other and two conflicting squad lists.

Even until early this month, many players were still uncertain about which coach was in charge. Can such a team perform normally?

Both Cameroon and Gabon failed in the World Cup qualifiers and did not qualify for the World Cup.

But Gabon's failure is understandable because their strength does not rank high in Africa; they are definitely not in the top ten, probably around fifteenth or sixteenth, making it really hard to qualify for the World Cup.

Cameroon's failure, however, is quite strange.

Most of you have probably seen the news: the tiny country of Cape Verde, with a population of just over 500,000, miraculously qualified for the World Cup.

So, why was Cape Verde able to achieve this miracle?

The key reason is that Cameroon performed terribly. Despite drawing one of the easiest groups, they underperformed in every way, which gave Cape Verde the chance.

Cameroon's poor performance is mainly due to a very peculiar football association president.

During his playing career, Eto'o was a national hero and undoubtedly a world-class star.

But after becoming the football association president... things took a complete 180-degree turn.

I won’t mention personal issues like assaulting reporters or telling his own daughter to die, but let's focus on matters affecting the development of Cameroonian football.

First, he was accused of match-fixing.

There is a recording promising to help the Obopo club get promoted, and after that promise, Obopo’s opponents received many red cards, and several matches were forcibly stopped, yet Obopo was awarded points.

He was also reported to have called referees, resulting in two controversial penalties awarded in the second half and five red cards shown.

Second, he illegally cooperated with certain organizations and was publicly sanctioned by the African Football Confederation.

Third, he unlawfully dismissed the veteran coach Conceicao and forcibly replaced him with his close associate Song, leading to a FIFA fine of 1.6 million dollars and plunging the Cameroonian football association into a financial crisis.

Fourth, he ignored laws and contracts and forcibly removed head coach Brice.

Why do we say Cameroon has two head coaches?

Because legally, Brice is the legitimate head coach.

But Brice refused to obey Eto'o, which infuriated Eto'o so much that he almost physically assaulted Brice in public last time.

Thus, Eto'o forcibly appointed his close friend David Pagou as the national team coach.

Note: Legally, Brice remains the official head coach.

Therefore, on December 10th, the Cameroonian Ministry of Sports also stated that Brice is still the official national team coach.

As the official coach, Brice naturally had to draft an official Africa Cup squad list.

Meanwhile, Eto'o also prepared his own squad list.

So, with two head coaches and two squad lists, the whole situation became extremely chaotic.

Fifth, Eto'o expelled many strong players.

The current national team captain and the second-highest scorer in Cameroon's history, Aboubakar, is a highly skilled, good-tempered, hardworking veteran who even won the Africa Cup Golden Boot. Suddenly, he was excluded from the squad, reportedly because Eto'o feared he might surpass his record as the national team's top scorer.

As for Onana, who openly defied Eto'o, he was completely banned from the national team.

Also, Ngadeu from Beijing Guoan, previously a key defender and captain who helped Cameroon win the Africa Cup, was also ousted by Eto'o.

Additionally, many players missed out due to injuries or other reasons, making Cameroon's squad quite weak this time. Although they already performed poorly in the World Cup qualifiers, this squad is even worse.

Honestly, if leadership above acts like this, wouldn't it affect our morale at work? Would you be willing to fight hard for such leaders? Probably not. So, do you believe in the fighting strength of a team like Cameroon?

Therefore, although the two teams differ greatly in reputation and their market values differ by nearly ten times, what do you think about Gabon’s ability to satisfy their fans? We hope they at least avoid defeat!

Alright, for today’s other matches, I will still provide written commentary for you tonight. If anything is unclear, feel free to ask me. "Watch football and understand it," we won’t miss each other!
