Pedri spoke out in defense of the "high defensive line," which is a standout tactical feature of coach Hansi Flick at Barcelona, and also confirmed the positive effects the German coach has brought to the Catalan team.
Although he led Barca to three trophies in his debut season, Flick has often faced doubts, especially about the risky high defensive line style. However, Pedri believes outside opinions do not fully represent the reality on the field.
In an interview with Spanish media, the Spanish midfielder explained: "From an outsider’s view, the high defensive line seems to expose many gaps between midfield and the goal. Sometimes, it looks like a single through ball could leave the goalkeeper exposed. But actually, when we apply high pressing, it’s very hard for opponents to find spaces or make accurate passes."
