During the turmoil caused by the naturalized player controversy, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) received encouraging news when sponsors such as Bank Islam continued their commitment.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed that sponsors, including Bank Islam, are maintaining normal cooperation and have not shown any signs of withdrawal, despite the uproar surrounding the falsification of documents involving seven foreign-origin players that has shaken Malaysian football.
Recently, rumors circulated on social media claiming that Bank Islam, one of FAM’s main sponsors, had withdrawn from the partnership after its logo disappeared from FAM’s official website.
However, in a press conference following a special meeting of the FAM Executive Committee (term 2025–2029) held at Wisma FAM, Acting President Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi denied these reports.
“Indeed, Bank Islam has contacted FAM to get a clearer understanding of the situation. We have held several meetings to provide detailed explanations, and they are awaiting the final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) before making their next decision,” Mr. Yusoff stated.
According to the head of FAM, it is completely normal for sponsors to request detailed reports because they need to be fully informed about developments related to the organizations they support.
“At present, there is no official decision regarding withdrawal of sponsorship. The parties only want to verify information to ensure transparency. FAM continues to operate normally and the sponsorship contracts remain valid,” Mr. Yusoff emphasized.
He also stressed that FAM will continue to work closely with Bank Islam and other sponsors, and await the CAS conclusion on this controversial case before taking further steps.
The scandal involving seven naturalized players is believed to have damaged the image of Malaysian football recently. However, FAM affirms its commitment to pursuing the legal process and maintaining trust with its commercial partners.
