Port FC is under threat of a 0-3 forfeit loss in the Thai FA Cup for using more foreign players than permitted.
Port FC has issued an apology to their fans after fielding more foreign players than the regulations allow, resulting in their elimination from the FA Cup despite defeating Bangkok United.
The Port FC club admitted to the violation of using more foreign players than allowed and accepted the disciplinary committee’s penalty, despite their strong performance on the field when they beat True Bangkok United 2-0 in the 32nd round of the Chang FA Cup at Pat Stadium on December 21st.
According to the Chang FA Cup regulations, when clubs of the same level face each other, rules on the number of foreign players allowed apply. In the match between Port FC and True Bangkok United, both teams were permitted a total of 5+2 foreign players: 5 foreign players of any nationality and 2 players from ASEAN countries. However, from the 79th minute onward, Port FC exceeded the allowed number of foreign players.
Port FC had 6 foreign players on the field simultaneously during the match – Rebin Sulaka, Lucas Tocantins, Bryan Perea, Matheus Lins, Noboru Shimura, and Kaka Mendes – violating the rule that permits a maximum of 5 foreign players on the field at the same time. It is almost certain that Port FC will face a 0-3 forfeit loss penalty from the Thai Football Association soon.
The management, coaching staff, and stadium personnel of Port FC apologize sincerely to all fans for the incident. This is a significant and unexpected setback for the club and will impact their goals and success in the 2025/26 season. The club will take steps to improve its procedures and ensure such incidents do not happen again.
