Napoli wins the Italian Super Cup thanks to David Neres' brace

In the early hours of December 23rd, Napoli put on a convincing display to overcome Bologna 2-0, thereby officially securing the 2025/26 Italian Super Cup title.

The match was held at Al-Awwal Park (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) and concluded with David Neres making a significant impact, starring as the hero with an elegant brace that brought Napoli their second trophy under coach Antonio Conte’s reign.

Napoli entered the final brimming with confidence after defeating AC Milan 2-0 in the semifinals. Conte kept the same lineup and familiar 3-4-3 system, advancing Politano and Spinazzola on the wings to provide width and maintain continuous pressure.

Bologna opted for a more cautious approach with a 4-2-3-1 formation, relying on high pressing and the midfield’s adaptability to manage transitions.

Following a rapid attack down Politano’s right flank, David Neres skillfully controlled the ball and unleashed a powerful long-range shot from about 25 meters. The ball flew sharply and dangerously into the top corner, leaving Bologna’s goalkeeper no chance to intervene.

In the second half, Bologna was forced to push their line forward to seek an equalizer. Nevertheless, their efforts were quickly thwarted by Napoli’s solid defense and effective pressing from midfield. In the 57th minute, a defensive error from Bologna was punished. Neres quickly capitalized and finished cleanly to complete his brace, securing a 2-0 victory for Napoli.

This Italian Super Cup title is Napoli’s third in their history, following previous wins in 1990 and 2014. For some of the newcomers, it also marks their first trophy since joining the club in the summer of 2025. This success further confirms Antonio Conte’s distinct tactical influence and indicates that Napoli is on the right track.

Following the Super Cup, Napoli will swiftly return to the fierce Serie A title race. The blue team currently trails Milan by one point and Inter Milan by two points.
