This information was shared by Mr. Yusoff when asked by the media about the timing of CAS’s final decision, as Malaysia enters the critical phase of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign.
Acting President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Wira Yusoff Mahadi, stated that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling regarding FAM’s appeal along with seven Malaysian national team players is likely to be announced before Malaysia faces Vietnam in March 2026.
According to the head of FAM, the scheduling factor of the qualifiers plays a crucial role, making it difficult for CAS to extend the review period. The match between Malaysia and Vietnam is expected to be the final fixture of Group F and will be decisive for qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
Datuk Wira Yusoff Mahadi emphasized: "Considering the competition schedule, since we are participating in the AFC qualifiers, and our last match is in March against Vietnam, I predict the decision must be made before our final Group F match with Vietnam. After that, the AFC will conduct the tournament draw."
The acting president of FAM further stressed that the CAS decision not only holds significance for Malaysia but also directly impacts the organizational plans of AFC and FIFA. "Therefore, a decision is mandatory. I believe FIFA has also been informed about this matter. They need to have a ruling before Malaysia’s final match."- the acting president of FAM stated.
Besides affecting the standings in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the CAS ruling is also seen as a key factor influencing many of FAM’s long-term plans for 2026. Datuk Wira Yusoff Mahadi said FAM needs the final conclusion to decide on sending the national team to major tournaments, including the Asian Games.
Currently, Malaysia holds a strong lead in Group F with a perfect 15 points from five matches, maintaining an unbeaten record and showing consistent form throughout the qualifying campaign.
Malaysia’s latest victory was against Nepal in the fifth round, held at Bukit Jalil National Stadium last November. This result brought the yellow-shirted team very close to qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup finals and put significant pressure on their competitors, including Vietnam.
Given the current developments, the match between Malaysia and Vietnam in March 2026 is not only a sporting contest but also closely linked to the legal fate and long-term strategy of Malaysian football on the continental stage.
