Coach Kim Sang Sik has provided an answer about extending his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation following three straight titles in 2025.
After leading the Vietnam U22 team to win the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, the contract situation between Coach Kim Sang Sik and the Vietnam Football Federation has attracted significant attention from media and fans.
According to reports, Coach Kim Sang Sik signed his initial contract with VFF in June 2024, which will expire in March 2026. However, up to now, no party has announced any contract extension. Speaking to the press on the morning of December 22, Coach Kim Sang Sik stated:
"During nearly two years here, my CV has improved. I am very happy working with the players here. Regarding the contract, we understand the current VFF President is very busy. Therefore, we will discuss further after meeting with the President", Coach Kim Sang Sik said.
It is known that, there is a clause in Coach Kim Sang Sik’s contract with VFF for an automatic one-year extension until February 2027 if he achieves good results with the U22/U23 Vietnam teams and the national team. Thus, given his impressive recent achievements, this clause has naturally been triggered.
Starting from December 23, Coach Kim Sang Sik will rejoin the U23 Vietnam team to prepare for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship. After the remarkable "treble" success, the Korean strategist affirmed he still has many missions with Vietnamese football, especially on the continental stage:
"Now, I feel a responsibility not to rest on this victory, but to strive with the players to reach even greater heights. I hope this win is not the end, but a new beginning. I will continue to challenge myself alongside the players to make Vietnamese football more competitive in Asia", Coach Kim shared.
