FAM officially reported to the police after detecting suspected forgery of documents of seven Malaysian-born players, while committing to cooperate in the investigation and improve internal governance.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will formally notify the police about the suspected forgery case involving seven naturalized Malaysian players, following the recommendation of the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC).
This information was confirmed by Acting FAM President Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi during a press conference after a special Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting held at the Wisma FAM headquarters.
“We will submit a police report as suggested by the IIC so that authorities can conduct a thorough investigation into this matter. The report will specify that forged documents were submitted to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA),” said Mr. Yusoff.
According to Mr. Yusoff, the investigation is necessary to determine how the forgery occurred and who is directly responsible. He emphasized that FAM fully supports the involvement of authorities to clarify the entire issue, ensuring transparency and maintaining the organization’s credibility.
Previously, in its full report, the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC) made three main recommendations for FAM related to this case.
First, FAM should promptly file a police report to allow law enforcement to investigate and verify the authenticity of the suspected forged documents, as well as clarify the responsibilities of those involved.
Second, the IIC recommended that FAM’s Disciplinary Committee launch an internal investigation and take appropriate disciplinary actions against the FAM Secretary General if any violations are found during the process.
Third, from a governance and internal reform perspective, FAM was advised to strengthen oversight mechanisms, improve administrative procedures, and rebuild trust in player management to prevent similar mistakes in the future.
This incident is regarded as a major test of FAM’s transparency and management capability, especially as the Federation strives to restore its reputation following controversies involving Malaysian-born players in the national team.
