The official inauguration of the Thai Nguyen stadium, with an investment exceeding 500 billion VND, has not only made waves domestically but has also quickly captured strong attention from the Southeast Asian football community.
On the morning of December 19, 2025, Vietnamese football reached a significant infrastructure milestone as the Thai Nguyen provincial stadium was put into operation. The opening ceremony was held with great solemnity, forming part of a series of key national construction and inauguration events, celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party.
The Thai Nguyen stadium was built on an area of 15.47 hectares, within the planning of the provincial sports complex. Construction began on October 1, 2022, aiming to create a modern sports complex meeting standards for hosting professional domestic and international football tournaments.
On the ASEAN FOOTBALL fanpage, many supporters expressed impression at Vietnam’s progress in football infrastructure, stating that success on the pitch combined with investment in facilities is the right approach. A Malaysian fan commented: “The Vietnamese team has played well since Quang Hai’s era until now. Vietnam deserves a beautiful stadium.”
Meanwhile, a Thai fan also showed support for Vietnam’s approach: “Actually, I like how Vietnam does it. Achieve success first, then improve stadium infrastructure.”
An Indonesian fan responded briefly but warmly. One account wrote: “Well done, Vietnam”.
Notably, some opinions compared the Thai Nguyen stadium to iconic football venues worldwide. A Malaysian fan remarked: “This stadium looks like San Siro, very beautiful.”
Meanwhile, a Singaporean fan even caught attention by commenting: “This stadium is even more beautiful than Wembley.”
The complex includes an international standard football field, an 8-lane oval track and a 10-lane straight track, serving both football and athletics. With 22,000 seats, the Thai Nguyen stadium is comparable in size to Hang Day stadium and surpasses Viet Tri stadium.
Upon completion, it is recognized as the largest stadium in the Northern Midland and mountainous region, serving as a central venue for large-scale sports, cultural, and tourism activities. Right after the opening, the stadium will host its first event, the 2025 Thai Nguyen Four-Team Football Tournament, featuring Hanoi FC, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, The Cong Viettel, and PVF Public Security teams.
