Thai media express astonishment at Vietnam starting construction of Trống Đồng Stadium, a 135,000-seat project anticipated to be the largest stadium worldwide.
Vietnam's sports and construction sectors have just marked a historic milestone as Trống Đồng Stadium officially broke ground within the Olympic Sports City complex. This mega project, funded by Vingroup with an estimated budget of 925 trillion VND, quickly attracted significant attention from regional and international media.
According to announcements, Trống Đồng Stadium will hold 135,000 spectators, surpassing all existing venues to become the world's largest stadium upon completion. Beyond its size, the project also sets another record with the largest retractable roof system on the planet, enabling sports, cultural, and entertainment events to continue regardless of weather conditions. The stadium is expected to be finished by August 2028.
Upon news that Vietnam is about to own the world's largest stadium, Thai media immediately responded with clear admiration. The TNN Tech website stated verbatim:
"Vietnam is making history by breaking ground on Trống Đồng Stadium, with a seating capacity of 135,000, becoming the largest stadium in the world."
Not only emphasizing the “massive” scale, TNN Tech also highlighted the cultural elements in the stadium's design. The site further wrote:
"The modern design deeply reflects Vietnamese cultural spirit. The stadium's architecture is inspired by the Đông Sơn drum and the Lạc bird, a mythical creature symbolizing Vietnam’s precious cultural heritage. The stadium will be built on over 73.3 hectares (458 acres) in Thượng Tín district, south of Hanoi."
Notably, Thai media used vivid language when discussing the symbolic significance of this project for Vietnam's national status in the future. The site concluded:
"The inauguration of Trống Đồng Stadium in 2028 will echo like a resounding drumbeat, declaring Vietnam's readiness to spread its wings and proudly lead the nation to become a world-class sports hub."
Positive feedback from Thai media shows that Trống Đồng Stadium is not just a construction project but is also seen as a new symbol of ambition, identity, and Vietnam’s stature on the global sports map in the coming years.
