Malaysian media “goes crazy” as Vietnam begins construction of the Trống Đồng Stadium, a project predicted to be the largest in the world with a capacity of 135,000 seats
“Unbelievable! Vietnam is building a stadium that will make the whole world take notice.”This was the excited opening statement from MakanBola (Malaysia) when reporting on the Trống Đồng Stadium project, regarded as Asia’s new sports icon.
According to MakanBola, news about Vietnam starting construction of a massive stadium with 135,000 seats and the world’s largest retractable roof caused Malaysian social media to “go wild.” Thousands of Malaysian fans left comments expressing surprise, admiration, and even some envy at Vietnam’s bold move.
The site described: “If completed as designed, Vietnam will surpass the rest of Southeast Asia by far. This is not just a stadium but a declaration of the stature and ambition of a rising nation.”
According to ASEAN Football, the groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Olympic Sports Urban Area in Hanoi. The Trống Đồng Stadium, with a total investment of 35 billion USD (approximately 925 trillion VND), is expected to be finished by August 2028.
The stadium will be built to FIFA standards, aiming to host the Asian Games, Olympics, or even the World Cup in the future. Once operational, Trống Đồng will surpass many famous stadiums such as Camp Nou (Spain) and Wembley (England).
Malaysian media described this as “the boldest sports project in Southeast Asia’s history.”
This move shows they are ready to become the new sports hub of the region. With the Trống Đồng mega project, Vietnam not only earns Malaysia’s respect but also asserts its position on the global sports map.
