Juventus beats Roma, closing in on Serie A top 4

Conceicao and Openda’s goals helped Juventus defeat AS Roma 2-1, further solidifying their chances to break into the Serie A top 4.

The Serie A round 16 encounter between Juventus and AS Roma in the 2025/26 season lived up to expectations as a high-profile match, with both sides entering the game with strong determination.

Playing at their home ground, Juventus quickly advanced their formation right after the kickoff, taking charge of the match and applying pressure on the visiting team’s half.

However, AS Roma showed thorough preparation by setting up a solid defense, maintaining good team spacing, and resisting the fast-paced game style of the "Old Lady."

Conceicao and Openda’s goals helped Juventus defeat AS Roma 2-1, further solidifying their chances to break into the Serie A top 4.

For most of the first half, the match was tightly contested. Both teams were active in shooting, but most attempts came from outside the penalty box or awkward positions, resulting in few accurate shots on target.

Towards the end of the half, Juventus increased their tempo, frequently attacking down both wings to stretch Roma’s defense. In the 43rd minute, Conceicao nearly scored with a dangerous shot, forcing the visiting goalkeeper into a fine save.

Just one minute later, Juventus’ continuous pressure finally paid off. After a smooth combination inside the box between Yildiz and Cambiaso, Conceicao rushed in to finish neatly, putting the hosts ahead 1-0 to the delight of the crowd.

In the second half, AS Roma pushed forward to look for an equalizer. Coach Gasperini made three substitutions to improve the attack and add unpredictability. Nevertheless, Juventus kept control and managed the midfield well. On the other side, Coach Spalletti also made three changes, which quickly proved effective.

In the 70th minute, Openda took advantage of a good opportunity to score Juventus’ second goal, extending their lead. However, AS Roma did not give up. Shortly after, Tommaso Baldanzi reduced the deficit to 1-2 with a close-range tap-in, reigniting hope for the visitors.

The final minutes were full of excitement. Juventus almost scored a third when Yildiz’s shot hit the post, much to the fans’ regret. Ultimately, Juventus preserved their 2-1 win, earning three crucial points and temporarily moving to 5th place in Serie A with 29 points, just one point behind the top 4.
