Although delighted to have Sir Alex Ferguson's support, coach Ruben Amorim insists that MU will compete for the Premier League title much sooner than this living legend predicted.
Coach Alex Ferguson was the last to bring the Premier League trophy back to MU in the 2012/13 season before retiring. Few realize that after that, MU gradually declined and has yet to return to its former glory. After more than a decade of downturn, Ruben Amorim is the latest manager tasked with restoring Old Trafford’s golden era, and this season has shown signs of recovery, although the road ahead remains challenging.
In a season without European competition, MU is focusing all its energy on the Premier League. Amorim’s MU has lost only 1 of their last 10 matches and could enter the Top 4 by Christmas if they defeat the in-form Aston Villa. This week, Sir Alex boldly stated it might take another 10 or 11 years before the Red Devils can claim the English title again.
Additionally, Sir Alex both supported and offered heartfelt advice to Amorim: "Ruben Amorim is a talented coach. However, his situation is far from easy. My advice to him is to think carefully before making decisions, especially regarding transfers. He and his staff must ensure they find players who fit the team. That’s something Manchester United has failed to do in recent years."
Coach Ruben Amorim appreciates Sir Alex’s guidance. However, Amorim disagrees with the notion that MU will need 10 years or more to win the Premier League. His stance is clear: "Sir Alex Ferguson understands football better than I do, especially English football. But I believe it won’t take that long to win this league, and I don’t know which coach will be here then, but I truly believe we can compete for the title in the coming years, and I don’t think it will take many years, though you never can predict the future.
Regarding leadership, this is a crucial moment for the club, and internal issues must be resolved. I am still here to do that. As long as I remain, I will fight, never back down, and handle everything. MU is improving. We are a strong team continuously improving. Surely, MU will attack better, score more goals, and concede fewer.”
