At the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship, five teams will participate: Thailand (host), Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Brunei. The format is a single round-robin to determine the two best teams who will advance to the final, while the third and fourth place teams will contest the third-place match. The event will be held at the same venue as the U19 futsal championship, in Nonthaburi (Thailand).
The official list of 14 players from Vietnam’s U16 futsal team for the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship has just been announced. Compared to the initial call-up list, six players were dropped before traveling to Thailand for the tournament.
This is the first time the Southeast Asian Football Federation has organized futsal competitions for the U16 and U19 age groups, marking a significant development for youth futsal in the region. This event creates a major opportunity for young players, especially since Southeast Asia currently lacks an official youth futsal platform. Previously, the only youth-level competition was the AFC U20 Futsal Championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation, which has been suspended since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has not yet resumed.
Nevertheless, Vietnam’s youth futsal remains active and stable. Each year, the U19/20 futsal teams are regularly called up for training camps and international friendly matches, including two high-quality games against Russia’s U19 team in 2024. Additionally, the national U20 futsal championship organized by the Vietnam Football Federation has become an important platform, helping to discover and develop many promising young talents for Vietnamese futsal.
According to the plan, to prepare for the upcoming regional tournaments, the Vietnam U19 and U16 futsal teams are scheduled to begin training from November 16 in Ho Chi Minh City.
