The 135,000-seat Trống Đồng Stadium, located within the Olympic Sports City funded by Vingroup, has officially started construction.
At a historic event for the nation's sports and construction sectors, the mega Trống Đồng Stadium project has officially commenced. Situated within the Olympic Sports City complex, invested by Vingroup with a total budget of up to 925 trillion VND, this project is not only a new architectural landmark but also a testament to Vietnam's stature on the global sports stage.
With an enormous capacity of 135,000 seats, once completed, Trống Đồng Stadium will claim the title of the largest stadium worldwide. Moreover, this masterpiece will set a second record as the stadium with the largest retractable roof system on the planet, enabling events to continue regardless of weather conditions. The stadium is expected to be finished by August 2028.
In terms of technology, Trống Đồng Stadium will be equipped with the most advanced solutions available today, comparable to top-tier stadiums in Europe and the Middle East. Notably, the modular roll-out turf technology allows the entire playing surface to be replaced within 6 to 10 hours, ensuring continuous high-quality play for various types of events. Its four curved stands create a 360-degree space, optimizing sightlines from every seat, giving spectators the best possible visual experience.
Meeting the strictest FIFA standards, the mega project also includes four training fields (two of which have roofs), a modern VAR center connected to a full stadium camera network, as well as press facilities and an international-standard conference area. This venue will be ready to host major global sports events such as the Asiad, Olympics, or even the World Cup in the future.
The groundbreaking of Trống Đồng Stadium represents not only an infrastructure milestone but also a catalyst for economic growth, tourism, and enhancing Vietnam's diplomatic standing. When the lights shine on the world's largest stadium, the world will recognize Vietnam as a new destination for continental and international-scale events.
