According to the official Transfermarkt announcement, following a fan vote, South Korean forward Son Heung-min, who left Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur this summer to join MLS side Los Angeles FC, was chosen as Transfermarkt’s 2025 MLS MVP. Spurs fans recognize that Son, with his Premier League caliber, has been dominating the MLS, making this honor well-earned!

This summer, Son Heung-min departed Tottenham Hotspur after ten years, transferring to Los Angeles FC for a fee of €22 million, thus beginning a new chapter in his professional career in MLS.

Now 33 years old, Son Heung-min stands 1.84 meters tall, is proficient with both feet, primarily playing as a left winger, and is contracted with Los Angeles FC until the end of December 2027. Transfermarkt values him at €20 million. Transitioning from the Premier League to MLS, Son has maintained top form, appearing 13 times across all competitions this half-season for LAFC, scoring 12 goals and assisting 4. However, LAFC was eliminated in the MLS playoff quarterfinals by Vancouver Whitecaps, led by Müller!
Some may question why Son Heung-min was named Transfermarkt’s 2025 MLS MVP instead of Messi. It’s important to note this is a Transfermarkt selection, not an official award, and can be understood as recognizing the most valuable transfer in MLS this season rather than the actual season MVP.
