The SEA Games 2025 final concluded the journey of the Vietnam women's national team with a disappointing silver medal. It was also the last match for Coach Mai Đức Chung as head coach.
Despite their determined effort, the Vietnamese women had to accept defeat to the Philippines in a penalty shootout. The regret was intensified when Bich Thuy’s legitimate goal in the 29th minute was controversially disallowed for offside by the referee. This erroneous call directly affected the match’s outcome, stripping away the chance to win the ninth gold medal in history and making Coach Mai Đức Chung’s farewell incomplete.
SEA Games 33 was also Coach Chung’s official final tournament, as his contract with the Vietnam women's national team will end on December 31, 2025. Although unable to finish with a championship, the team’s performance at SEA Games 2025 remains a great pride, especially amid a youth renewal and many surrounding difficulties.
