With the determination of a team ranked 20th worldwide, Vietnam’s futsal squad edged out Indonesia 1-0 in their second match.
The match featured a balanced battle from the opening minutes, as both sides started cautiously and focused on ball possession. Goalkeeper Văn Tú was reliable in goal, playing a key role in maintaining a clean sheet for Vietnam, while Indonesia actively organized a tight defense and swift counterattacks.
The only goal of the match occurred in the 11th minute after a well-planned free-kick routine. Minh Quang’s confident strike put Vietnam ahead. This goal was a deserved reward for the persistent pressure applied by coach Diego Giustozzi’s players during most of the game.
After taking the lead, Vietnam maintained control of the game, launching numerous attacks and applying strong pressure on Indonesia’s goal. However, Indonesia’s well-organized defense and the goalkeeper’s focus prevented any further scoring opportunities.

In the second half, Indonesia intensified their attacks, but none could penetrate Vietnam’s solid defense. In the final moments, Indonesia adopted a power-play strategy, forcing Vietnam to retreat deep into defense. Nevertheless, thanks to Văn Tú’s outstanding performance and the players’ high level of focus, Vietnam preserved their 1-0 victory.
This narrow win was very important for the Vietnamese men’s futsal team after their 2-4 defeat in the opening match against Malaysia. The three points secured against Indonesia revived their hopes in the medal race at SEA Games 33. Coach Diego Giustozzi’s players regained their form and confidence.
This important victory also provided extra motivation for the team ahead of the crucial match against host Thailand at 7:00 PM today (December 18). At SEA Games 33, five teams — Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar — compete in a single round-robin format to determine the final standings. Despite facing a packed schedule, injuries, and fatigue, the Vietnam futsal team showed the highest level of determination in every game.
