Manchester United lost 3-1 at home to Brighton, losing at home to the Seagulls for the second year in a row that two different managers have lost at home. Brighton captain Lewis Dunk was heartfelt after the game, saying that his team was comfortable winning and looked like he could play for the Red Devils every week.
After Brighton were promoted to the Premier League in 2017, Manchester United won more than they lost, the most classic being a game at the American Express Stadium during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure, where Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty after the game!
In 2020/21, the Reds beat Brighton three times in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, but that was the final glory, and after Brighton's 4-0 thrashing of the Red Devils in May 2022, the two teams have met seven times and the Reds have lost five, including three consecutive Premier League defeats this season, last season and last season.
Brighton are now one of United's biggest nemesis, with veteran Welbeck scoring six times and narrowly missing out on a number of occasions. Although BLACK SHELL was not able to put on a show of killing his old boss again, his team-mate still scored three goals and walked away with the victory.
The first half was a 1-1 draw, while the stats showed that United had six shots on goal in the second half compared to Brighton's three. However, the visitors scored two goals from three occasions while Manchester United had none on target. Dunk thinks they got the job done without much effort.
"It's a good day." Speaking to Sky Sports, Dunk said: "I think Brighton fully deserved to win. We got off to a good start but then we were a little sloppy and we were equalised by Manchester United. The intensity in the second half was good and we were a little frustrated at half-time but we spoke up and we showed the quality of the team in the second half. We've had a good run against Manchester United over the years and hopefully that form continues."
Dunk added: "We were relaxed at the end of the game and didn't give them any chances throughout the game. We were comfortable, but we were putting pressure on each other until the end. We've learned that to win a football game, you don't have to play beautifully."
Manchester United boss Amorim believes his team is showing too much anxiety. 'It was a game like any other game, we conceded some goals that we shouldn't have conceded and then it was difficult for us to keep the ball because the players were really anxious. We played well at times but it was short, so the game was inconsistent. From outside the pitch, it's clear that everything is getting messy. It's not trainable, you just have to find the right space to press, don't go too far."
Some people think that Manchester United is not suitable for playing in the 343 formation, and if they continue to play like this, they will only keep losing, and that Amorim should adjust his tactics according to the actual situation of the team, because no coach only plays one tactic.
But Amorim insists he won't change: "For me, it's clear that I'm not going to change the way I look at the game, I'm very clear about that. The players will suffer, the fans will suffer, I'm really sorry, but I only have one way to do things. We need to overcome the difficulties and everyone knows very well what we are going to do. I've explained the situation and I'm going to play the way I want because that's my philosophy. I'm clear about everything, it's clear to the fans, to the board and everybody, they know what to expect from me. But that's not the most important thing, it's unacceptable to lose so many games. Losing four of five home games and winning just one is hard for any club to accept, let alone Manchester United, so we have to improve.'
