Recently, Erick Thohir, the Chairman of Indonesia’s Football Association (PSSI), has reinforced his status in the global sports community by officially acquiring 100% ownership of Oxford United Football Club.
With this action, Erick Thohir not only maintains his role as a famous sports executive in Indonesia but also becomes one of the notable football club owners worldwide. An official release from Oxford United confirmed that Erick Thohir finalized the acquisition of all shares from Oxford Investment Holdings Pte. Ltd. Before this, he had held 51% ownership of the club since September 2022 together with Anindya Bakrie.
Oxford United’s announcement also stated: "Horst Geicke, who previously served as the club’s director, has resigned from his position." This signifies a major change in the club’s ownership restructuring, and with 100% share control, Thohir now fully governs the club.
Erick Thohir becomes the owner of an English football club.
Oxford United currently competes in the EFL Championship, ranking 21st in the 2025/2026 season standings. Under Erick Thohir’s leadership, the club hopes to make progress in the future despite facing current performance challenges.
Notably, Oxford United features Indonesian players, including striker Ole Romeny, who represents the Indonesian national team. Additionally, the club signed midfielder Marselino Ferdinan from KMSK Deinze in 2024. However, due to limited playing opportunities, Marselino was loaned to AS Trencin in the Slovak Super Liga.
