Malaysia's Coach Unexpectedly Speaks Out Regarding FIFA Sanctions

Coach Peter Cklamovski showed contentment with Malaysia's national squad, regardless of FIFA's sanctions and the increasing instability surrounding the nation's football outlook.

During the November FIFA Days, the Malaysian national team will continue their campaign for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers with their fifth match against Nepal.

Before the match took place, Malaysia's team faced a severe setback when FIFA rejected the appeal from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) concerning the eligibility of seven naturalized players and upheld the previously imposed sanctions.

Nevertheless, Coach Peter Cklamovski remained optimistic about Malaysian football’s future. When asked about players' fears of potential international bans, the Australian coach highlighted that the players’ dedication and passion remain a great source of motivation for him.

Specifically, he stated: "I feel excited to work every day with the current players. As a coach, that truly brings me satisfaction. The environment we have created, both on and off the pitch, at the hotel and training grounds, you can sense a special energy throughout the entire team."

The 47-year-old coach also reminded players to maintain their focus: "We can only control what is within our power. We need to do that every day and never take anything for granted. We must keep striving, stay humble, and continuously build."

Cklamovski also dismissed all rumors and criticisms surrounding recent results, affirming that his sole priority is to build a team with identity and pride.

He added: “For me, it’s straightforward. What others say or think is beyond my control. I focus only on doing well today, improving day by day. I hope to make Malaysian football proud by our style of play and finish the 2025 international year undefeated.”

Under Cklamovski’s leadership, Malaysia remains unbeaten in seven matches this year, including friendlies. Currently, the "Malayan Tigers" top Group F in the Asian Cup qualifiers with a perfect 12 points from four wins against Nepal (2-0), Vietnam (4-0), and Laos (3-0, 5-1).

Off the field, FAM is also dealing with a separate case at FIFA’s Court regarding player eligibility standards, with ongoing additional investigations. The association may escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to appeal.
