OFFICIAL: Lionel Messi’s Emotional Return to Barca

In an unexpected instant, Lionel Messi came back to Camp Nou and posted touching sentiments on his personal page.

Today, November 10th, Lionel Messi sent an emotional message to fans after visiting Camp Nou with a completely new look. On his personal Instagram, the Argentine superstar shared a video with images and wrote: “Last night, I returned to the place where my soul always belongs. A place that once gave me boundless happiness, where you made me feel like the luckiest person in the world. I hope one day I can come back, not just to say goodbye as a player, something I never had the chance to do...”

Due to financial difficulties, Messi was forced to leave Barcelona in 2021 after more than two decades devoted to the Catalan club. Wearing the Blaugrana jersey, he played 837 matches and scored 709 goals. Afterwards, Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain before moving to MLS to play for Inter Miami, the club he currently represents.

Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has proposed organizing a special tribute match for Lionel Messi on the occasion of the reopening of Camp Nou after renovations. This announcement came right after the team’s open training session at the stadium.

Laporta stated: “It would be wonderful to inaugurate the new Camp Nou with a tribute match honoring Lionel Messi.”

The Camp Nou upgrade project, which began in 2023, aims to increase capacity to 105,000 seats and equip it with state-of-the-art facilities. The stadium is expected to partially reopen by the end of 2025, but Laporta revealed the tribute match for Messi might only take place after 2026.

Messi debuted for Barcelona’s first team in 2004 at just 18 years old and quickly became the club’s all-time top scorer. During his glorious career at Camp Nou, he won 10 La Liga titles, 4 Champions League trophies, 7 Copa del Rey cups, 3 FIFA Club World Cups, and 3 European Super Cups, cementing his status as the greatest legend in the history of the Catalan club.

Despite immense glory, Lionel Messi had to leave Barcelona in 2021, ending over two decades with the Catalan team. Now, he has unexpectedly returned to his “old home,” bringing indescribable emotions to Blaugrana supporters.
