Coach Mikel Arteta recently revealed that Arsenal is actively employing artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic tool in their quest for the Premier League crown this season. More than 20 years after the “Invincibles” era of 2003-2004, the Gunners are determined to return to the top using the most advanced modern methods.

The Spanish tactician, known for his innovative coaching methods, stated he is not hesitant to utilize technology to optimize the team’s performance. Arteta shared: “AI is an extremely powerful tool when used properly and with the right questions. It helps us better understand ourselves and identify areas for improvement.” He also emphasized that AI can analyze data, predict injuries, and suggest tactics, but it cannot replace the emotions, intuition, and sharpness of a coach when handling real-time situations on the field.

The case of coach Laura Harvey, former head of Arsenal Women, is a prime example of successful AI application in football. Harvey used ChatGPT to analyze tactics and applied AI’s recommendations in a match in the US, leading her team to victory. Arteta believes Arsenal is exploiting AI similarly: as a “data advisor to assess performance, while leaving final decisions to humans.”

Currently Arsenal leads the Premier League table with consistent form. However, after a 2-2 draw against Sunderland, the Gunners must maintain high focus for the crucial upcoming matches. The North London derby against Tottenham on November 23 will be an opportunity for Arsenal to demonstrate their strength before entering the Champions League group stage against Bayern Munich.

Arteta affirms that combining technology with human insight will help Arsenal maximize effectiveness, protecting players while improving tactical quality.
