Lee Williams became the first Vietnamese-British player ever to score in the V-League.
Finally, after 6 appearances in the V-League for the Ho Chi Minh City Police Club, the Vietnamese-British striker Lee Williams scored his first goal. Even more impressively, the forward with dual Vietnamese-British heritage struck past a Vietnamese-British goalkeeper, Đặng Văn Lâm and caused the league-leading team Ninh Bình FC to concede a goal.
Taking advantage of the rebound from Đức Phú’s initial shot, Lee Williams quickly followed up with a shot that forced goalkeeper Văn Lâm to retrieve the ball from the net. This first goal since returning to play in Vietnam will provide great motivation for the young Vietnamese-British striker moving forward.
Thus, Lee Williams became the first Vietnamese-British player in history to score in the V-League. Currently, there are two Vietnamese-British players playing in Vietnam: Lee Williams and Brandon Ly. However, Brandon Ly has had limited playing opportunities at CAHN and has yet to score.
Standing at an impressive height of 1.90m with an ideal physique, Lee Williams wears jersey number 33 for the Ho Chi Minh City Police team. Before returning to Vietnam, he played in England for Warrington Town (6th division) on loan from Stockport County.
During his time playing in England, Williams made 16 appearances, scored 3 goals, and provided 1 assist. Notably, he was given the chance to play in the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup) for Stockport County in the 2024/2025 season, a memorable milestone for the 18-year-old player.
Returning to Vietnam for the 2025/26 season, Lee Williams signed with the Viettel Army Club. However, since the team has already filled its two Vietnamese-British player slots with Damian Vũ Thanh and Kyle Colonna, it is likely that Williams was loaned to Ho Chi Minh City Police to gain experience and develop his skills.
Besides high expectations for his performance, Lee Williams is also in the process of completing procedures to obtain Vietnamese citizenship. If successful, this young player could represent national teams in the future, opening a promising path for his career in his homeland.
With an ideal physical foundation and training in the English football system, Lee Williams is considered a highly promising asset for Vietnamese football.
