Both Man City and Liverpool are returning to winning form in the Premier League ahead of this direct confrontation. Currently, Man City sits 2nd while Liverpool holds 3rd place in the standings.

Guardiola took over the managerial role at Etihad in 2016, and since then, his team and Liverpool have been fierce rivals. Both clubs have dominated English football over the past decade, sharing eight Premier League titles between them.

In their last matches, Man City secured a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League, then defeated Dortmund 4-1 in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage. Erling Haaland scored in both games, becoming the first Man City player to score in five consecutive Champions League matches.

Haaland has been scoring continuously, netting 18 goals in 14 matches across all competitions for Man City. The Norwegian striker is Guardiola’s most potent weapon. With just two more goals, he will reach 100 Premier League goals and break the record for the fastest to 100 goals in the league if he scores a brace in his 108th appearance, surpassing Alan Shearer’s 100 goals in 124 matches.

Man City’s 10 goals in their last three games have given their fans hope for a strong result against the reigning champions Liverpool.

At home in Etihad, Man City has been extremely impressive this season. They have won 4 of 5 games with an average of 2.6 goals per match. Guardiola’s team has remained unbeaten at home since August, following a loss to Tottenham.

The upcoming match between Man City and Liverpool at Etihad in Premier League Round 11 will be Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th managerial game—a milestone only reached by veteran managers like Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, and Neil Warnock.

However, Man City has not beaten Liverpool since 2023. After two 1-1 draws in the 2023-2024 season, they lost both matches 0-2 last season.

In 20 Premier League meetings since 2015, Man City has won 5 times, Liverpool 8 times, and 7 matches ended in draws.

After losing four consecutive domestic games, Liverpool ended their losing streak with a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa last weekend. Notably, striker Mohamed Salah regained form with an outstanding performance, scoring his 250th goal for Liverpool.

Midweek, Liverpool continued their impressive run by convincingly beating Real Madrid in the Champions League. Coach Klopp defeated both Real Madrid and Man City in consecutive matches last season and hopes to repeat that feat.

Coach Klopp’s team is determined to end a run of three consecutive away losses in the Premier League, where Liverpool risks suffering four straight away defeats for the first time since April 2012, when Kenny Dalglish was in charge.

The Man City vs Liverpool match in Premier League Round 11 of the 2025-2026 season will kick off at 23:30 on November 9.

Projected starting lineups for both teams

Man City: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O'Reilly, Rodri, Gonzalez, Cherki, Foden, Doku, Haaland

Liverpool: Mamardashvili, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitike
