Not only scoring goals, Ronaldo’s unusual reaction draws the referee’s attention

Cristiano Ronaldo once again became the focus, as he was seen angry and sarcastic towards the referee in Al-Nassr’s 3-1 win against Neom in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday night (11/8).

Although he scored to help his team maintain a perfect start to the 2025/26 season, the Portuguese superstar still couldn’t hide his frustration with the referee’s management of the first half. The incident occurred immediately after the referee blew the whistle to end the first half, when Al-Nassr was attacking and had a chance to score. On his way off the pitch, Ronaldo approached the referee and said sarcastically: “Well done, well done. Keep it up, you’re doing great.”

The video quickly spread, clearly showing CR7’s sarcasm as he believed the referee had interrupted a dangerous play for his team.

In the second half, Ronaldo let his actions speak. He scored from the penalty spot after Joao Felix was fouled in the box, increasing the score to 2-0. This goal marked the 953rd of his career and his 83rd in the Saudi Pro League since joining Al-Nassr in early 2023.

Earlier, Angelo Gabriel opened the scoring in the second half, while Felix sealed the 3-1 victory with his 10th goal of the season. The home team Neom was reduced to 10 men after Luciano Rodríguez was sent off for a dangerous elbow. After the match, Ronaldo dismissed all signs of displeasure and posted a cryptic message on social media: “Keep working towards our dream.”

Al-Nassr currently holds an 8-match winning streak, aiming to secure their first Saudi Pro League title with Ronaldo as captain. At 40 years old, Ronaldo’s desire to score remains undiminished. In 2025 alone, he averages over one goal per game, getting closer than ever to the legendary milestone of 1,000 career goals.

After finishing the domestic matches, Ronaldo will join the Portugal national team for World Cup qualifiers, facing Ireland (Dublin) and Armenia (Lisbon). When asked about his World Cup dream, CR7 stated: “I don’t need the World Cup to define my career. Whether I win or not, it doesn’t change who I am. The most important thing is to enjoy the moment.”

Following the national team break, Ronaldo will return to Al-Nassr to face Al-Khaleej (11/24), before competing in the AFC Cup match against Istiklol.
