Former outstanding winger Joe Cole believes there is just one thing that could prevent Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal from clinching the Premier League title this year.
The former Chelsea player’s viewpoint is as follows: “I am confident that Arsenal will win the Premier League this season. Liverpool will rejoin the title race. That’s certain because, after all, they have overcome their crisis and found their winning formula again. Also, I think Manchester City will compete, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team with such a strong defense (referring to Arsenal) since Chelsea in the mid-2000s (under Jose Mourinho).
I genuinely can only feel envy looking at Arsenal right now. At this moment they are truly leading the title race. I don’t see any weaknesses in their defense; the only thing that might stop them winning is if Saliba or Gabriel get injured at a crucial point in the season. Still, ultimately, Arsenal’s biggest rival will probably be themselves. If they maintain consistency and “survive” the final stretch, Arsenal will reach the Premier League summit.”
At present, excellent and consistent form is helping Arsenal create a 6-point gap over Manchester City, who sit second in the 2025/26 Premier League standings. Only Manchester City have scored more goals than the Gunners this season.
However, Arsenal boast an extremely solid defense, having conceded just 3 goals across all competitions and kept 8 consecutive clean sheets in every tournament.
Arteta’s team will face a tough away match at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland. If they win, Arsenal could extend the gap to 9 or 10 points over Manchester City and Liverpool, who will face each other directly at the Etihad Stadium.
Regardless of the outcome at Etihad, Arsenal will benefit and enter the November FIFA break at the top of the Premier League table.
