As part of pot 3, the Vietnam U20 women's squad may end up in the same group as Thailand U20 in the 2026 U20 Asian Championship final stage.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) recently announced the draw ceremony for the 2026 U20 Women's Asian Cup final, featuring 12 teams. Specifically, the draw will take place at 1:00 PM on November 10 in Thailand, the host nation for this tournament.
According to the grouping, the Vietnam U20 team is placed in pot 3 along with Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan. Pot 1 includes the host Thailand, North Korea (the defending champions), and Japan (the current runners-up). Pot 2 consists of Australia, South Korea, and China. The last pot contains Jordan, India, and Bangladesh.
The 2026 U20 Asian Cup finals will feature three groups, each containing four teams. The group winners, runners-up, and the two best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout stage, scheduled from April 1 to 18, 2026. Afterwards, the four semifinalists will represent Asia at the 2026 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Poland, held from September 5 to 27, 2026.
With this group allocation, Vietnam U20 may find themselves in the same group as their regional rival Thailand U20 right from the group stage.
During the qualifiers, coach Masahiko's team impressively defeated all three opponents in Group B — Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kyrgyzstan — to advance with a perfect 9 points.
