David Moreno, one of the promising talents from La Masia academy, is believed to have a condition akin to what Lionel Messi experienced in his childhood.
According to Mundo Deportivo, David Moreno, the rising star of La Masia, has paused his career progression due to issues related to puberty.
The medical team of Barcelona assesses the condition of the 2012-born prodigy as not serious, with a strong possibility of a comeback soon. However, the club’s management remains concerned that the temporary growth disorder might impact Moreno’s overall physical development. Experts and coaches are closely monitoring the situation and do not rule out the use of hormone therapy similar to what was once administered to Lionel Messi, who faced physical challenges during his early years at Barca.
David is a left winger, turning 14 on January 25 next year. He joined Barcelona from Levante in the 2023/24 season and has had two outstanding seasons at the academy. Nicknamed "Deivit," he is known for his skillful left foot. Although he played as a right midfielder last season, David scored 28 goals and provided many assists, but those numbers don’t fully capture his influence on the pitch.
David possesses dribbling skills like a winger, the vision of a top central midfielder, and the finishing ability of a sharp striker. His greatest strength lies in making precise decisions. Additionally, his strong character means he always shows up when the team needs him most.
However, since July this year, Moreno began experiencing symptoms such as knee pain and calf muscle fatigue, common signs linked to bodily growth. As a result, the young talent has been sidelined since August.
During his break from playing, La Masia has implemented a special recovery program for him, including a balanced diet supplemented with calcium, vitamin D, and protein to support steady bone and muscle development.
This weekend, at 11:30 AM on Saturday (Spanish time), David may return in the U14 Barcelona match away against Atletic Lleida. After six rounds, the U14 Barcelona team has won 5 matches, lost 1, and currently ranks second with 15 points, one point behind Espanyol.
