Erick Thohir, the head of the Indonesian Football Association, expressed strong support for the U17 team after their defeat against Brazil.
The Team Indonesia U17 Faces Continued Challenges at the U17 World Cupas they suffered a 0-4 loss to Brazil U17 in the match held early on November 8 (local time). This marks the second consecutive defeat for coach Nova Arianto’s squad, after Zambia defeated them 3-1 in the opening match of Group H.
Although the team has yet to earn any points from two matches, Erick Thohir, Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and Minister of Youth and Sports, still praised the young players’ fighting spirit.
“The Indonesia U17 team gave their all despite the loss to Brazil. Regardless of the outcome, we continue to support the team who have represented Indonesia on the global stage,” Thohir stated. “The battle is not over yet; there is still a match against Honduras. Keep your spirits high,” the head of Indonesian football added.
In this match, Brazil U17 completely dominated the play. Captain Luis Eduardo opened the scoring with a precise header, before Putu Panji’s own goal increased the score to 2-0 in the 33rd minute. Not stopping there, Felipe Morais scored the third goal for the South American side just before halftime.
In the second half, although Brazil maintained control of the game, they added only one more goal from a powerful long-range shot by Ruan Pablo that left goalkeeper Dafa Algasemi helpless.
This defeat places Indonesia U17 at the bottom of Group H, but their chances to advance remain if they achieve a good result against Honduras U17 in the final match on November 10.
