According to confirmation on the official website, the famous goalkeeper David De Gea and his teammates have a new coach as Fiorentina appointed Paolo Vanoli to replace Stefano Pioli in the hot seat
A few days ago, Fiorentina dismissed head coach Stefano Pioli due to unsatisfactory results. Unlike last season, The Viola played very inconsistently under Pioli. Since the start of the season, they have never won two consecutive matches and mostly suffered defeats. In Serie A, Fiorentina is in crisis with only 4 points after 10 rounds, sitting at the bottom of the table. They have yet to secure a win in Italy’s top league, with 4 draws and 6 losses. This marks the third consecutive time Pioli has been fired within just a year and a half.
To help the team quickly recover, especially to escape the bottom position in Serie A, Fiorentina appointed Paolo Vanoli as the new head coach. For Serie A fans, Vanoli is a familiar name as he previously managed Venezia and Torino. He also spent 2 years as an assistant coach at Inter Milan.
Vanoli’s contract runs until the end of the 2025/26 season. However, Fiorentina included a clause to extend it by one year if the 53-year-old coach achieves good results by season’s end. Therefore, De Gea and his teammates now have a new coach with great hopes. According to the schedule, the new captain Vanoli will debut for The Viola in the upcoming away match against Genoa this weekend.
After his debut, Vanoli will have two weeks to familiarize himself with everything at the new club, allowing time for the final international break of 2025. Vanoli’s immediate task is to help the team secure their first Serie A win to boost morale and prepare for the challenging journey ahead. The players’ main support comes from stars like De Gea. Currently, the former Manchester United goalkeeper is also performing steadily amid the instability of Fiorentina’s key players.
De Gea also shared about the club’s current difficulties as follows: "The level of the clubs we face in the Conference League is lower compared to Serie A. We have performed well in the Conference League, but not in Serie A because this league is tougher as Fiorentina faces stronger teams.
Fiorentina is facing many challenges and you can feel that in the locker room: the only solution is to work hard and fight in every match. No one expected this season’s start. The team hasn’t played well, but we must keep a positive attitude. We need to trust each other more. More than anyone, we must believe in raising our standards and winning. The whole team will try to cooperate with coach Vanoli to help the club improve and return soon."
