The Indonesian Football Association along with naturalized players Thom Haye and Shayne Pattynama faced severe penalties after incidents that occurred after the game versus Iraq in the fourth round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
According to Bola, FIFA recently issued sanctions against the Indonesian Football Association due to the incident Fans throwing water bottles onto the field after the match against Iraq in the fourth round of World Cup qualifying. Specifically, PSSI was fined 50,000 Swiss francs (equivalent to 61,000 USD) because of this incident.
Additionally, the two naturalized players Thom Haye and Shayne Pattynama were each fined 5,000 Swiss francs and suspended for 4 matches due to their excessive reactions toward the referee after the game.
Specifically, at the end of the match against Iraq, both Thom and Shayne received direct red cards and were sent off by Chinese referee Ma Ning for violent conduct during the game.
According to Indonesian media, the punishment FIFA handed to these two players is too harsh. With the suspension, both will miss the FIFA Days training camps in March and June next year and will only return for the Southeast Asian Championship in July. This is expected to be a significant loss for the Indonesian national team as both are reliable key players.
"Thom Haye and Shayne Pattynama have been banned by FIFA from participating in four official matches. This means they will definitely miss Indonesia's next national team game during FIFA Matchday", Bola commented.
