Supercomputer makes surprising prediction for Man City vs Liverpool match

The Opta supercomputer has delivered analysis and predictions regarding the Man City versus Liverpool matchup in Premier League Round 11.

At the 11th round of the Premier League, all eyes will be on Etihad Stadium, where Man City will host the reigning champions Liverpool. Both teams have shown inconsistent form in domestic competition, yet the home advantage is seen as a significant benefit for the Manchester side in this upcoming encounter.

This has been confirmed by Opta, which predicts Man City to win in 45.4% of scenarios, with Liverpool winning in 27.7%of cases, and 26.9% ending in a draw. Although the results suggest The Citizens have the upper hand, the supercomputer still gives The Kop over a 50% chance of leaving the pitch with at least one point.

Additionally, Pep Guardiola's squad lacks historical backing due to an unimpressive record against the Merseyside team.

According to Opta, Man City lost both Premier League matches against Liverpool last season, each with a scoreline of 0-2.

Under Pep Guardiola, there has only been one instance where his team failed to score in three consecutive matches against the same opponent, which was against Man Utd in 2020 (across all competitions).

The two defeats to Liverpool last season equal the total number of losses Man City suffered in their previous 12 meetings with The Kop (4 wins, 6 draws, 2 losses). The last time they lost more to this opponent was between March 2015 and December 2016, when they endured four consecutive defeats.

If Liverpool wins the upcoming match, it will mark their first time securing back-to-back victories at Man City’s home since a streak of three wins between 1987 and 1991, when they played at Maine Road.
