Center-back Piero Hincapie is gaining notice at Arsenal, having previously set GPS data records at his old club, and is expected to become a cornerstone in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
New signing Piero Hincapie of Arsenal has become a hot topic after revealing he once broke daily GPS data records at Independiente del Valle. According to former coach Miguel Angel Ramirez, the Ecuadorian player possesses “unimaginable” physical attributes that surpass even professional first-team players, making Hincapie a true “monster.”
Joining Arsenal on loan from Bayer Leverkusen with a £45 million purchase option, Hincapie is anticipated to be a new key piece in Arteta’s defense. The 23-year-old center-back previously played for Talleres and Independiente del Valle before moving to Europe, where he impressed with his speed, acceleration, and tireless movement.
“He breaks GPS data every day. Speed, sprinting, acceleration, all metrics are astonishing. He is a physical monster and also excels technically and tactically,” Ramirez told Sky Sports. He believes Hincapie is capable of competing for a starting spot at Arsenal and affirmed: “He will secure a place in the team. Just wait and see.”
Since recovering from a groin injury, Piero Hincapie has made five appearances for Arsenal, including his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace and matches in the Carabao Cup and Champions League. After the 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague, coach Mikel Arteta expressed particular satisfaction, saying: “I’m very happy with him. He can play as a center-back or full-back, very strong and effective.”
However, Hincapie still faces fierce competition for the center-back and left-back positions, as Arsenal currently has quality players like William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Can the Ecuadorian “monster” prove his worth and become a key element in Arteta’s squad?
