Manchester United has identified a promising alternative for Bryan Mbeumo, who will be absent during December and January due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Manchester United is likely to play without three key players during the upcoming holiday period, as Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui have all been called up for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The forwards Mbeumo and Amad represent Cameroon and Ivory Coast respectively, while defender Mazraoui will compete at home with Morocco, the host nation of this year’s tournament.
Mbeumo’s absence is seen as a significant loss, especially since the 80 million Euro signing summer transfer window last summer has shown impressive form in a season where the “Red Devils” have been quite inconsistent.
| Player | Outstanding achievements |
|---|---|
| Bryan Mbeumo | - Player of the Month - 4 goals and 1 assist in 3 matches - 18 shots inside the box |
However, AFCON 2025 will conclude on January 18, so even if Cameroon reaches the final, Mbeumo will only be absent until mid-January. This has led the coaching staff to decide against spending on a replacement during the winter transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United plans to rely on internal options to fill Mbeumo’s role, with the standout being the young talent Shea Lacey. The 18-year-old has impressed coach Ruben Amorim during training sessions with the first team.
Lacey is considered one of the brightest prospects in Man Utd’s academy and is likely to get his debut during the Christmas-New Year period when Mbeumo or Amad are absent.
Primarily playing as a right winger, Lacey is seen as the most direct replacement Man Utd currently has. Sources also reveal that coach Amorim particularly admires the young player’s style and has had several private discussions recently to guide his development and help him adapt to top-level football.
