Despite recovering from injury and appearing for CAHN, Filip Nguyễn was not included in the Vietnam national team roster.
The Vietnam national team call-up list for November has just been announced. For the goalkeeper position, coach Kim Sang Sik named three players: Văn Lâm, Đình Triệu, and Văn Việt, while Trần Trung Kiên was called to the U23 Vietnam squad to prepare for the SEA Games. Surprisingly, Filip Nguyễn’s name was missing.
It is known that the Vietnamese goalkeeper of foreign origin has fully recovered from his injury and played in the CAHN vs Macarthur match in the Asian C2 Cup on the afternoon of November 6. Previously, Nguyễn Filip suffered a recurrence of his injury during CAHN’s home game against Macarthur at Hàng Đẫy Stadium on the evening of October 23. Initial reports indicated he would be sidelined for about two months to recover.
Even though he has fully recovered and started for CAHN, Filip Nguyễn was still not included in the Vietnam national team call-up. Since the 2024 AFF Cup, this Vietnamese goalkeeper of foreign descent has missed multiple national team gatherings. The first was the March training camp for matches against Laos and Cambodia.
After that, Filip Nguyễn was the starting goalkeeper in Vietnam’s 0-4 loss to Malaysia in June but then missed the October call-up for two matches against Nepal. Despite his talent and being regarded as a goalkeeper of European caliber, Filip Nguyễn has yet to find his footing with the national team.
The goalkeeper from CAHN has consistently shortened his expected recovery time. Initially, Nguyễn Filip was expected to rest about two weeks (three matches) before returning. However, he was able to play in the away leg in Australia on November 6.
During the two matches without Nguyễn Filip, coach Mano Polking gave the chance to young goalkeeper Vũ Thành Vinh. Filling in for his senior, the 2005-born player performed impressively, contributing to both wins by keeping clean sheets. Unfortunately, upon Filip Nguyễn’s return, CAHN suffered a 1-2 defeat to Macarthur.
