Xuân Son was visibly thrilled after coach Kim Sang Sik summoned him back to the Vietnam national team ahead of the Laos match.
"Proud and happy to wear this jersey again. Forever a love," forward Xuân Son shared his first words after being recalled by coach Kim Sang Sik to the Vietnam national team in preparation for the game against Laos on November 18.
Although the striker born in 1997 was expected to return, teammates and fans were still surprised and delighted when the official list was announced. Under Xuân Son’s post, many national team players and numerous Vietnamese supporters left congratulatory messages for him.
Xuân Son underwent surgery following a severe injury in the second leg final of the 2024 AFF Cup against Thailand in January. Since then, the naturalized Nam Định player has been completely sidelined. Nevertheless, driven by his desire to return as soon as possible, Son has diligently trained for recovery and has fully healed within the expected timeframe. During his rehabilitation, Xuân Son often expressed how much he missed the pitch, especially playing alongside the "Golden Star Warriors."
In the upcoming training camp starting November 10, Xuân Son will officially make his comeback on the field with his teammates after 10 months away. This period will help him reacclimate to the national team environment, regain his playing form, and scoring ability. If all goes well, coach Kim Sang Sik may field him in the match against Laos.
