Bryan Robson surprised fans by declaring Casemiro as the most intelligent player in football history, praising him as the true “tactical brain” of the current Manchester United squad.

In an interview with Mail Sport, Bryan Robson was tasked with creating the “perfect player” by selecting six key qualities. For the “Intelligence” category, the former Man United captain did not choose legendary names like Xavi or Pirlo, but instead picked Casemiro - who currently plays for Manchester United.

Robson gave a brief but meaningful explanation: “Casemiro is the smartest player I have ever seen, not only because he reads the game well, but because he is always one step ahead of every situation.”

This statement surprised many, as early in the season Casemiro was criticized for poor form and struggling within the old tactical system. However, since Ruben Amorim took over the team, the 33-year-old has gradually regained his status and become a key figure in midfield. He has started every Premier League match this season and is proving his worth with consistent performances and influence in the dressing room.

“Casemiro’s intelligence lies in his ability to control the tempo of the game. He knows when to keep the ball, when to commit tactical fouls, and how to shield his teammates from pressure,”Robson added, emphasizing that Casemiro’s tactical mindset makes him the type of player every coach desires.

Casemiro is currently facing contract issues as his deal with Manchester United will expire at the end of the season. Although no official negotiations have taken place, the club’s management is reportedly considering an extension, provided the Brazilian midfielder lowers his wage demands. At 33, Casemiro remains one of the highest-paid players on the team, but his influence on the younger generation makes it difficult for the club to let him go easily.
