Up to five overseas Vietnamese players have been named in the nominations for the 2025 Vietnam Golden Ball Award.
On the morning of November 6th, at the headquarters of Saigon Liberation Newspaper (SGGP), the organizing committee of the Vietnam Golden Ball Award held a press conference to announce the launch of the 2025 voting season – marking the 30th anniversary of this prestigious award honoring the best Vietnamese football players.
The overall picture of Vietnamese football in 2025 is seen as vibrant with many professional highlights. In men's football, after winning the Southeast Asian championship for the third time, Coach Kim Sang-sik’s team continues to maintain impressive form in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The Vietnam U23 team successfully defended their Southeast Asian U23 championship title and secured a spot in the 2026 U23 Asian Cup, aiming for the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games.
In the men's Golden Ball category, a total of three overseas Vietnamese players have been nominated. These include two goalkeepers, Filip Nguyễn (CAHN) and Đặng Văn Lâm (Ninh Bình FC), along with Jason Pendant Quang Vinh (CAHN), who is nominated for the first time.
Among these three names, Filip Nguyễn stands out as the most impressive overseas Vietnamese player, having helped CAHN achieve a double victory in the National Cup and National Super Cup, finish third in the V-League, and become runners-up in the Southeast Asian Club Championship. Representing the Vietnam national team, Filip Nguyễn also won the 2024 AFF Cup.
Notably, in the category of best foreign player, two overseas Vietnamese players have been nominated: goalkeepers Patrik Lê Giang (Ho Chi Minh City Police) and Adou Minh (CAHN). These two players have delivered outstanding performances but have not yet obtained Vietnamese citizenship. Patrik Lê Giang, who has Slovak-Vietnamese heritage, is currently being considered for naturalization and may soon join the Vietnam national team.
